Fat Free, Matcha tea ; Yamamotoyama Loose Genmai-Cha Green Tea with Roasted Rice, 7.0-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6) http://goo.gl/Aoa1Qn from Yamamotoyama

- Family size loose genmai cha green tea with brown rice
- All natural; Kosher Certified; antioxidants
The roasted brown rice in this tea adds a distinctive flavor that can't be compared with anything. I love to start my day with a cup of this tea...the aroma...the exquisite taste. Mmmmmm. I had to drive far to find this tea at a Japanese store in Seattle, and now I am thrilled that I can get it conveniently through Amazon. Yamamotoyama makes this in tea bags, also, but I think the loose leaf version is much richer. The tea bags are nice to take along in your pocketbook, though.
Green tea is my favorite tea--and of green teas, genmai is the one I find most delicious. It's almost sweet, has a bit more body and a less sharp taste than the typical "green tea" you get here in the US. This one has some of the qualities of a good Genmai tea, but do not steep it for long or it will become quite bitter. With a brief steeping it is smooth and flavorful. You can probably get at least two, maybe three, steepings per serving.
I was skeptical because of the economical cello packaging, but ordered anyhow. The tea was fresh as new cut hay, brewed nicely in a filter-cup. Pleasant golden hue to the drink. The brown rice adds a mild popcorn aroma I quickly got used to, and now like. I can see why green tea with toasted rice is a favorite beverage in Japan!
Less caffine than coffee, won't stain teeth like coffee, and has health promoting qualities ... do try.
BTW, read a study that coffee can lower IQ by 10 points, but tea does not.
Since you aren't supposed to sugar your tea,(it ruins the subtle experience of a brew) you save many calories, too. Taste it plain first. (steep 3 minutes only - you can brew a second time)
My purchase lasted for months in an airtight plastic storage jar. It's even decorative (like dry beans or pasta in a jar).
Fantastic tasting tea. Love the flavor. Product arrived quickly and was well packaged. Aroma and flavor of the tea were unique and special and a delight to the senses
i drink a lot of green/herbal teas, so this is, by far, the best value i've seen (& i shop mostly online)!!
if you like genmaicha, & actually know your teas, i'd recommend removing the tea after the desired color (i use a lobster-trap-style steeper myself), as it does tend to become very sour if left too long.
also, i make my tea by the pint, & find that this tea can easily make 2 pints per steeping of the same leaves.
i find the loose leaf teas more economical & easier to vary to my guests' tastes, but you need to have a good sealable container as these bags do not seal, and you need a good steeping tool too (to get the full satisfaction from this delicate tea)
great tea, I have loved gen mai cha for a very long time. The rice is perfectly toasted here and the leaves are good quality. wonderful taste and aroma. It gets used every day
This is my favorite tea! I am glad to get it at a reasonable price, too.
I love Yamamotoyama Brand. It is the best Genmai-Cha Green tea I have ever had. I was introduced to this brand about 15 years ago when my mom gave me this tea in a teabag. The blend is just perfect. It's a perfect combination of roasted brown rice and green tea. Not too bitter and incredibly fragrant. The price is just fantastic. I will definitely re-order this.
I've ordered this product multiple times and love it. In the mornings I put a little bit of matcha in the pot as well. Great combination. Always arrives on time and well packaged.
I'm surprised that even after being packaged the way it is (unprotected from the elements of the sun and heat, this tea tastes fantastic.
Here's a few tips for first time buyers:
1. DO NOT store this in a plastic or glass container. Plastic leeches toxins into your tea while glass is breathable and lets oxygen destroy your tea.
2. After opening, store in a non-leeching metal container in your FREEZER. Yes, keeping it in the freezer will make it last longer and keep the taste fresh as the day you opened it. If you don't have a container just roll up the package and put a tight rubber band around it.
3. Try to use it up within a month. If you're several months in you might notice the flavor has faded.
It takes a slightly acquired taste to enjoy the full awesomeness of this flavorful tea, but once you develop it you'll wonder why you didn't discover it earlier. I'm very lucky to live a few miles from a Japanese market that sells this. This is a must-have tea in our house, as soon as it runs low we get more.
This is my go-to tea. It tastes fresh and delicious. It is mild which I prefer and the package goes a long way. Bought it for the office and everyone loves it.
It's a fabulous tea. Roasty and delicious green tea. I'm half Japanese, I would know. You'll never go back to tea bags.
This tea is great. I love genmai-cha tea and it is hard to find in local stores. It has a great, nutty taste to it, which isn't for everyone, but I think it is delicious. If you love green tea, try this. It seems to pack a little more caffeine than regular tea, but I drink it almost daily and enjoy it every time.
Some people say it's cheap tea. It tastes great to me. Kind of like wine... It doesn't taste good to you. It's not good wine. I feel the same way with tea. If doesn't taste good to me, then it's not good.
This is great tea!
using all the time along green tea and roasted green tea
At first, i thought spending so much on some tea was ridiculous. but, i've had weeks worth of tea so far, several cups a day, and i haven't even finished two of the six packs it came with. I bought it because my art teacher had some and it smelled Ah-mazing, and i was NOT dissappointed! delicious!!
Fragrant and refreshing. Not the cheapest but the best. Quality. Would buy again!
Great price! Great Taste!
Excellent Genmaicha. Slightly roasted and sweet, nutty, smooth, clean, and refreshing tea! Perfect for an everyday tea. Not sure why they add sorghum seeds to the formula though, never seen that before. Maybe that's makes it slightly sweet?
I know this may be sacrilege but I like to add creamer to this tea. Whether it be fresh whole raw milk, half and half, coconut, almond, etc. I find that creamer compliments the nutty flavor of this tea quite well.
Machiventa, We've also evolved to almond milk, which might mix better than rice, I'll try it.
How long do you brew yours for? I'm using about a teaspoon for every 8 ounces and gave up on the teaball, opting for loose and strain it out, at about 2 minutes but seems weaker than I was expecting. Thx.
Yes, it's very unorthodox of me! Let me know if you like it.
Another creamer I like to mix with this is Rice Dream chocolate rice milk, or better yet, homemade chocolate almond milk. YUMMY!
Adding a diary product, or coconut of almond is WILD. I'll try it. Thx.
Comparing this to the Harney & Sons brand, and to some local tea shop genmaicha, this is slightly lighter in flavor and depth, very good, with the classic toasted & popped rice kernel taste layered over the green tea.
In texture, the leaves are larger with longer pieces of stem than the other brands we've tried. This actually makes it easier to use with a bombilla or strainer because there isn't much powder. The price is amazing for such good quality. If you drink a lot of genmaicha (and who wouldn't?), this is the value purchase.
I drink 4-5 cups of this tea a day. It tastes great. I can typically get 3 cups from one filling of my tea strainer. The first cup has a more toasty flavor and the second and third cups are more of a sweet taste.
Love this tea! My favorite Japanese restaurant has a fabulous rice tea and I finally asked the waiter one day and he said it was this one! Bought it and now I can have my favorite tea at home. The rice just makes for such a great taste!
Very good deal for the money you get SIX 7 ounce packets of loose tea.
I think the quality of the tea is ok, not as good as you may get in some Japanese restaurants, but a heck of a deal. The mix includes sorghum seeds which POP like popcorn adding to the toasted rice popcorn reputation. And yes I do throw it in a smoothie, kosher is close to organic?
I'm still experimenting with temperatures and quantities and in general it's not as toasty strong as I'd hoped.
I like this one better than the smokey tea I bought from YamamotoYama. This is a LOT of tea peoples, so be ready to share with somebody.
It's fantastic and I've tried many others. Good price!
So tasty
Tastes and smells good. Very good value.
This is pretty good but compared to Harney & Sons, the flavor seems a bit flatter, and I tend to us more tea to make up for it in the infuser. Still a very good value.
I first had Genmai-cha tea at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, and liked it so much that I purchased a packet of Yamamotoyama loose Genmai-Cha in the gift shop to take home with me. It has quickly become my favorite tea- nice toasted rice flavor, and good quality green tea leaves. Very happy to find this tea on Amazon!
wonderful tea
My Korean neighbor made me some of this tea when I was feeling under the weather. I was instantly hooked on it! A nice change from regular green tea.
